John Rohrl Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory on Jul. 17, 2024.
John Francis Rohrl, age 81, of Newnan, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024. He was born on December 3, 1942, to the late Joseph Karl Rohrl and Mary Catherine Rohrl.
After graduating from Georgetown University, John proudly served his country as a United States Air Force pilot, flying B-52 bombers during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his passion for flying by serving as a commercial pilot with Delta Air Lines for 30 years.
John was known for his sarcastic wit and attention to detail, especially to his children and the neighborhood kids on Irma Lee Drive. Everyone knew when "Mr. Rohrl" was home from a trip and behaved accordingly. He led an active life, enjoying many sports with a large group of friends, including basketball and baseball. His wife, Helen, loved to entertain and threw legendary parties, with John always along for the ride. During their 60 years of marriage, they traveled extensively but always looked forward to coming home to their beloved cats.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Smith Rohrl; children, Joseph Rohrl (Lesley) and Cathy Farr (Lloyd); grandchildren, Katie Mauldin (Jacob) and Brendon Dodson (Rachealmae); brother, Frank Wilson; numerous extended family and friends; and his cat, Barth.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Retired International Captain Rollin A. Jackson, Jr.

July 19, 2024

As secretary of Delta Golden Wings, Inc, the official pilot retiree organization, I , on behalf of all our members, send sincere condolences to each member of the family of John. I, personally, did not know John, but fraternally, pilots are "brothers" to a great degree and know about and feel the loss of someone dearly loved and respected. May the grace of God be with this family in the loss of a husband, father, grandfather and one who throughout his long life gave pleasure to all those about him. He will be dearly missed also by all his friends within the Delta Air Lines system.
