John A. Saffo
John A. Saffo, age 86, of Shelton entered into rest on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Griffin Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of 64 years to Ann M. (Giraldi) Saffo. John was born in Derby on December 18, 1937 son of the late John and Anna (Mica) Saffo and was a lifelong Shelton resident.
He was a Machine Maintenance Supervisor at American Brass for many years until his retirement. John was a former assistant Shelton Tree Warden, a former Shelton Canine Control Officer, and a former Shelton Supernumerary Police Officer. He was a member of the Huntington Fire Department and a legend of Lafayette Field. John was an avid fan of the N.Y. Yankees and UCONN Women's Basketball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting guns and gardening. Most of all he cherished spending time with his family.
John was the beloved father of Lisa Duarte and her husband Antonio, and Jacqueline "Jackie" Croteau and her husband Glenn, grandfather of Antonio Duarte (Nicoll), Michael Duarte (Victoria), Christopher Croteau (Gabrielle), and Richard Croteau (Faith), and great-grandfather of Matteo, Molly, and Michael, Jr. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Richard Saffo, and a sister, Marion Walker.
Friends may greet John's family on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton.
