John A. Satti, a long-time Naperville resident, passed away on December 4, 2024. He was born on June 24, 1938, in Italy, to Luciano Satti and Antonia (nee Bartoli).
John leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou (nee Toborg), who he married on August 17, 1963 at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Riverdale, IL. He is also survived by his children, Marie (Roger) Perriard, John Satti (Deanna Hlava-Satti), and Paul (Nicole) Satti; his adored grandchildren Corinne Perriard, Vincent Perriard, Isabella Satti, Grace Satti, Luciana Satti, and Charles Satti; his sister Erilda Satti. John also leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members.
John grew up in Roseland and attended Mendel Catholic High School, class of 1957. He went on to attend the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. After school, John worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, CA, and then moved back to Illinois to be part of a team of engineers and scientists to break ground on a new particle accelerator at Fermilab in Batavia, IL. John has several patents, most notably a patent for a superconducting magnet, which he designed to meet the demands of high energy physics. John retired in 1999 after 31 years at Fermilab.
John was a passionate woodworker and loved to fix things. There was no project, challenge, or task beyond John's ability, from designing and building two family homes, to sewing a pair of pants. John also enjoyed fishing, painting, and photography. John and Mary Lou traveled all over the world, covering 6 continents while exploring different cultures.
John was a long-time member of St. Raphael Parish in Naperville and enjoyed socializing with the 'Seniors on the Move' group. St. Anthony of Padova had a special place in John's heart. Every time he traveled to Italy, he would pay a visit to St. Anthony's Cathedral in Padova.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to loaves-fishes.org in his name.
The Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Friedrich Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540. The Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Rd, Naperville, IL 60540. Entombment will follow at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Naperville.
