John Scanlon Obituary

John enjoyed simple things in retirement, attending mass at OLV, watching the Giants and the Mets, and spending time with family. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Marian (Merity), and his beloved wife, Jane (McNeill). He is survived by his sister, Sr. Carol Marie O.P., St Francis Villa, Peekskill New York, his daughter Kate Silver and her husband Ian, son Matthew and his wife Georgina, son John, and his grandchildren, Sydney, Ben, and Sadie Silver. He is also survived by his good friends and in-laws, Diane Capozzi, Kathy Picariello, and Lou Filoso.
Family will meet privately at Greenville Memorial Home on Friday, June 27th, at 9am. The family invites everyone to attend a funeral Mass in John's memory at Our Lady of Victories Church at 11am. John will be laid to rest at Holy Name Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.

To the Family of John Scanlon, Jr.: By the time I received work of John's Homegoing it was not possible to get to the funeral. I served at Our Lady of Victories for several years prior to retiring in July 2024. I always enjoyed conversing my METS co-fan and kidding him about when he would get his METS season tickets. John was a good parishioner of OLV and good friend for me. I offered a Mass on June 29th for his intentions. Rev. Michael E. Gubernat, Saint John Vianney Residence, 60 Home Avenue Apt 24, Rutherford, NJ 07070. May his Homegoing bring him the loving embrace of our divine Father, the love of Jesus, and the grace of the Holy Spirit.
