Mr. John "Jack" W. Seburn, 90, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Meritus Medical Center.
Born Wednesday, November 21, 1934 in McConnellsburg, PA, he was the son of the late William Seburn and Hazel (Souders) Seburn.
Jack graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1953. He served in the US Army for three years in Germany as a Russian interpreter. He attended Hagerstown Junior College, Shepherd College, and Shippensburg College receiving a master's degree. He was a teacher, TV teacher, Supervisor of Social Studies and principal at Hancock High School for the Washington County Public School system for 34 years before retiring in 1995.
Jack and Betty Rae Palmer were married on December 28, 1958 and settled in north Hagerstown where they raised their three children. Family vacations involved stopping at historic sites, museums, and forts due to Jack's love of history. A man constantly on the move, his other interests included gardening, reading, vintage cars and trucks, and working on the family farm. In 2024 Jack and Betty celebrated 66 years of marriage, filled with family, joy, and fond memories.
Jack was a founding member and volunteer at the Conococheague Institute in Welsh Run, PA. He was also a member and volunteer of the Hagerstown Aviation Museum for over 25 years. Jack served on the museum board as Secretary/Treasurer and played a large part in creating the museum as it is today.
He is survived by his loving wife Betty; son, John P. Seburn, daughter, Sue A. Seburn, son, Patrick W. Seburn (Shelly); grandchildren, Scott C. Seburn, Grant Seburn, Laura K. Seburn (Matt McAlister), Gena S. Rodriguez (Gavin Palowitch); brother, Dale Seburn (Carolyn); nephew, Kevin Seburn and niece, Kendra Hightower.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Michele N. Seburn.
A celebration of life will be held at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum on Sunday, June 8th from 2 to 4pm.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hagerstown Aviation Museum in Jack's memory.
