John J. Silva Jr.

John J. Silva, Jr., 82, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital, with his loving family at his side. He was the loving husband of Susan E. (Garcia) Silva, with whom he shared over 40 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the son of the late John J. Silva and Olive (Mendes) Silva.
John had worked in construction for over 60 years until his retirement, many of those years spent in Rhode Island.
He enjoyed spending time with with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Sue; four children, Tina Lopes and her husband Joe of New Bedford, John Cabral of Beverly Hills, FL, Rexford Cabral and his wife Leeanne of Colorado Springs, CO, and Cyndi Couto and her husband Bob of Middleboro; two sisters, Rossella Pimental and her husband Manny of Largo, FL, and Linda Malone of Gulfport, MS; his sister-in-law, Sheena Fonseca; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Delores Souza and her husband Al; and four brothers-in-law, Charles DeCosta, Anthony DeCosta, Bob Fonseca, and Art Malone.
John's family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the Wilkes Ward at St. Luke's Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they showed him during his time there.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 12 Noon in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held 10 AM - 12 Noon, prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
