John N. Sinka

John Nicholas Sinka passed away at his home surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 73. John was known for his sense of humor, love of entertaining others, wild shirts /outfits and general whacky personality.

He was born to Carolyn (June) Tarr and John R Sinka on February 2nd 1953 in South Bend, IN and subsequently moved to New Carlisle where he spent most of his life.

John graduated from New Prairie High School class of 1971. He was an avid swimmer earning many awards and eventually used his swimming background to teach lessons to the youth in his hometown .

John eventually joined the New Carlisle Fire Department volunteering many hours providing assistance and safety to the community as well as some fun nights at their annual Fireman's Ball where he earned the nickname "sharp dressed man."

As a career path he worked as a supervisor at American Roller Company in Walkerton, but spent most of his life working at Lookin' Good Construction as a Master concrete core driller. He was a member of the Plaster and Cement Masons Local 692.

When he retired John liked to golf, especially in scrambles with his core group of Gary Lawson, Bob Middlebrook and Kenny Carter who proudly named themselves "the dimpled balls." He and Linda, his companion, hosted many card/games nights in their garage that they ended up turning into a family and friend game room.

He liked to work on household projects which he was well known for always starting, but never finishing. Most important was the time he spent with his grandkids who affectionately called him G-papa . He was known to host monster parties in his basement, pool parties, outdoor movies night at this house and many other extravagant activities. G-papa was the first to jump into the pool and play the grandkids' favorite game of shark in the pool. He was also a chosen favorite partner in a game of bags in the backyard.

As an adored father he took his kids to many concerts sharing his love for music. On Sundays he would take the family on drives in the country where he would sing "Proud Mary" and Brandee, Scott, and Angie would be the chorus. He was a family man that truly enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.

Though physical decline and dementia slowed him down in his last few years, the memories, as crazy as they were at times, will last in our hearts and minds forever.

John is survived by his brother Chris Sinka, sister Tawni (David) Maenhout, 3 children Brandee Flagg, Scott (Jessica) Sinka, Angela (Bill) Warner and stepdaughter Shawna Janski (Abner). He had 8 grandchildren Jayden Flagg, Kylie Briner, Evan Warner, Brock, Carson and Mason Sinka and Kelsea Jolley and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tim Sinka, sister-in-law, Christi Gumm), Companion Linda Sikorski, son-in- law Jason Flagg and grandson Braydon Flagg.

A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. EST Sunday, March 22, 2026, in the American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle, Indiana.

John has asked for contributions be made in his memory to his grandson Braydon's Memorial /Scholarship fund . This can be done at any 1st Source Bank location.
