John L. Skeldon, 81, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1944, in Gouverneur, New York, and lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and an easygoing warmth that touched everyone who knew him.
On August 15, 1964, John married the love of his life, Linda Lou Simmons. Together they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a loving home and family. Linda passed away on May 8, 2020, and John looked forward to being reunited with her once again.
For more than 30 years, John worked at the Newton Falls Paper Mill in Newton Falls, New York, where he was a dedicated and respected employee. His strong work ethic and good humor made him a friend to many throughout his long career.
John had a passion for simple joys and favorite traditions. He loved attending the Daytona 500-an event he rarely missed over the past 17 years-and he rarely missed a NASCAR race on TV. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball, relaxing with a good western movie, and listening to old-time country music. One of his favorite pastimes was helping decorate the front yard for the holidays, proudly contributing to the family's large display of inflatable decorations that always delighted the neighbors.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen and his wife Carol, with whom he lived for the past five years, and Scott and his wife Debbie, who reside in Vine Grove, Kentucky. He is also survived by his sister, Debra Watson, and her husband Peter. His surviving grandchildren include Ashleigh Bullard and her husband Roy Velasquez of Charlotte, North Carolina; Logan Bullard and his wife Leah Saiz of Fairbanks, Alaska; Courtney Skeldon of Charlotte, North Carolina; Trevor Skeldon Theresa, New York; and Ashley Miller, Star Lake, New York. John is also survived by several great-grandchildren and three nephews, Jamie Anson, Chad Watson, and Ricky Skeldon.
John is predeceased by his parents, Lennis and Phyna Skeldon; his brother, Gary Skeldon; his granddaughter, Lisha May Skeldon; his niece, Tami Skeldon; his in-laws, Kenneth and Lillian Simmons; and his beloved doggies, Puddles and Mollie Mae.
John will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and steady presence, and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Services will be held privately for the family at a later date.
