John Soeurn Sok born in 1940 to the late Yan Neth and Kebun Sourng in Battambang, Cambodia, passed away at the age of 85 on Saturday, December 27, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Saoy Keo and the eldest of seven children. He lived a life defined by resilience, courage, and deep devotion to family.
A survivor of the Cambodian genocide, he endured unimaginable loss, including the death of his first wife and son. Carrying his surviving daughter, he journeyed through refugee camps in search of safety, where he met his wife, Saoy Keo and together they began rebuilding their lives. After welcoming two children, they eventually immigrated to the United States, where they later welcomed their youngest child in
Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Arriving with nothing but determination, he worked tirelessly to support his family. A respected patriarch, he was known for his high expectations, wisdom, and strong presence. He loved traveling with his children, treasured time with his grandchildren, and was always ready with a clever remark. Generous and selfless, he helped many throughout his life, often without recognition.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Ruad Sok (Emmanuel Pereira), Bory Sok (Daodeth Khamsyvoravong), Chanda Sok (Lamkolarp Yai), and Vichara (Jonathan) Santos Silva, his grandchildren Leiyana, Elijah, Ivan, Theodore, Junior, Hailey, Mason, JJ, Vanika, Harrison, Damian, Asa, and Malakhi, and many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
He will be remembered as a fighter, a survivor, and a beloved father and grandfather whose legacy lives on through his family.
A Buddhist ceremony will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, beginning at 4 p.m. at The Buddhist Center of New England, 252 Public Street,
Providence, RI. Prayers followed by cremation in the White Dove Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue,
West Warwick, RI, will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
