John Sorenson, age 94, of Wausau, passed away on September 9, 2025.
He was born on February 4, 1931, in Ringle, Wisconsin, to Edward and Esther (Johnson) Sorenson. John grew up in Ringle alongside his five sisters—June, Elaine, Karen, Carol, and Ruth.
On September 4, 1954, John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley Otto, in Pine, Minnesota. Together they shared 71 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, commitment, and faith.
John worked for many years at Wausau Concrete Company, serving as plant superintendent, and later at Murray Machinery Inc. He eventually pursued his entrepreneurial spirit alongside his godchild Dale Uekert in 1989 when they founded their business, Kustom Karpet Kleaners.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; sisters, June Abt and Karen Koppa; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elaine (Gerald) Seehafer, Carol (Roman) Przybylski, and Ruth (Ronald) Christiansen; brother-in-law, Edward Abt; and brother-in-law, Thomas Koppa.
John will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and the quiet joy he found in simply spending time with those he loved most, especially Shirley. He was an avid NASCAR and local racing fan, and he never stopped learning. Whether tinkering in the garage, fixing things, or taking on new projects, John found great satisfaction in working with his hands and figuring things out.
