John N. Stanford, Jr., born February 14, 1929 in Wilson, OK to Gladys Cleo Tuck Stanford and John N. Stanford, Sr., passed into eternal rest Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the age of 94.
He is preceded in death by his mother Gladys Cleo and father John N. Sr., brothers Thurman Stanford, Noel Dean Stanford, Rube Valton Stanford, Rodney Kent Stanford, sisters Doris Dugan, Earnestine Adelaide Wyatt, Vickie Marceaux, son Leonard Woodrow Stanford and grandson Justin Allen Atkins.
He is survived by his sister Gaylyn Cleo Gunter (Dennis), daughters Ellen L. Hicks, Delaya Kincade (Johnny) Samantha Stanford, son John N. Stanford, III, twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
John Jr. began his life-long career in the oil field with Baroid and went on to own his own company, Wildcat Well Logging Service, for over 60 years. John Jr. was well respected in the oil field community. John was an avid reader, loved the old westerns and was an inventor. He held several patents for equipment used in the oil field. His children and grandchildren have many memories of spending time with him on the rigs.
Family was important to John and he loved to take as many family members with him wherever he went, whether it was to Kings Inn for fried shrimp and oysters or driving his motorhome "Gus" across country. His blue eyes and warm smile will be missed.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Winsteads’ Funeral Home in Portland, Texas.
