John Walter Steadman, a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and adored great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024, at the age of 86.
Born December 22, 1937, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Mabel Prescott Steadman. John was the beloved husband of Texie Ann Steadman (Ayers), sharing 63 years of love, laughter, and cherished memories together. Their enduring bond was a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other through the highs and lows of life. John's greatest pride and joy is family. He was a dedicated father to his two daughters Debbie and Terri. His unconditional love, guidance, and support were a constant source of strength for his daughters as they navigated through life's journey. As a grandfather and great-grandfather fondly called Papa John, he found immense joy in the presence of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He delighted in watching them grow, sharing their achievements, and creating lasting memories together.
John was a graduate of Spartanburg High School. He had a lifetime career in sales. His career began with JC Penney department store where he worked for almost 10 years. After earning his real estate license, he decided to leave the retail industry and enter the real estate/building industry. For 35 years he worked in the real estate and building industry and even started his own construction business for a while. John was a member of Park Road Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on many committees in his younger years. He was a former member of the Army National Guard and Reserves. He loved spending time with his family, woodworking and vacationing in the mountains and beach. John will be mostly remembered for his kind and gentle demeanor, outgoing personality, his infectious laughter, and his unwavering devotion to his family. He had a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Debbie Vergnetti (Paul) and Terri Burleson (Randy) of Waxhaw; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Park Road Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Amy Dean. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209.

Texie and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I know how hard it is for you all. I will always remember John with his big smile and always laughing. John always gave me solid advice along the way. I know that his faith was strong and that he is now resting in heaven.
