John Melvin Steinhauer

John Melvin Steinhauer Sr., 84, of Nederland, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, next to his beloved wife of nearly 50 years.
Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Melvin and Helen Steinhauer. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
After graduating from Belleville High School, he began working on pianos and pipe organs. Eventually owning his own business where he repaired anything electronic, which he was self-taught to do. He also owned a Tropical fish store where he was able to bring both of his passions together in the same business, Tropical fish and electronic repair in a business known as Precision Sound.
In 1979, he and his wife, of almost 50 years, moved from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Houston, where he worked for G.R.E. working on Marine radios and radars. Eventually, he went to work for Verizon, then Chevron where he oversaw communications at and between all their plants.
John retired in 2013 to pursue passions in hunting, fishing, breeding of tropical Angelfish, and of course, caretaking for his beloved wife.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary Kay Steinhauer; children, Joni Steinhauer (Mike), and Stacy Arnaud (Dana): Theresa Foxworth (James) and Jeff Pope (Katherine); Johnny Steinhauer Jr. (Holly) and Tricia Kimball (Kyle); Chris Pope (Christine); Michael Steinhauer and Jacqueline Steinhauer; grandchildren, Isabella, Aaron, Ian, Sara, Jason, Ashleigh, Jacob, Cameron; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service for Mr. Steinhauer will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Broussard's, 505 North 12 Street, Nederland. His interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland
