John Stephenson Obituary
John Piercy Stephenson, a man known for his devoted friendship, extraordinary woodworking talent, and deep spiritual commitment to Jesus Christ, passed away suddenly in Asheville, North Carolina, on November 8, 2025. He was 81 years old. He is survived by Mrs. Sandy Carter of Asheville, Mr. Kim Johnson of High Point, NC and Samuel T. Johnson of Hendersonville, NC all Cousins.
Born in Alameda County, California, on September 21, 1944, John was the beloved son of the late Arthur Warren Stephenson and Jessie Piercy Stephenson. John obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the University of California.
John was a man of service and dedication, always eager to share his gifts and knowledge with those he loved and John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
Many friends and family were the happy recipients of his meticulous wood craft whether it was designing, building, or repairing furniture. With a true servant's heart, John was willing to tackle almost any home project. He found creative solutions to home-project challenges and always delivered total satisfaction.
John was a voracious and avid reader, and an eager, lifelong learner. John loved to draw listeners into intelligent discussions about the most recent book he'd read or the Biblical truths he studied, rooted in his faith in Jesus Christ. His great knowledge and love for Scripture were a delight to his friends, with whom he shared the results of his study and thinking.
In his later years, John became involved with the Right to Life movement, driven by his personal conviction based in Holy Scriptures confirming that human life begins at conception.
John was a devoted son. He lovingly and selflessly cared for his mother until her death. John's friendship, dedicated service to his country, incredible building skills, creative problem-solving, eagerness to learn, and the long conversations on a variety of passionate topics will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A lifelong runner, John embodied discipline and vitality, maintaining his running activity until he was called Home.
