John Edward Strand, born on July 24, 1947, in Assawoman, VA, was the beloved son of the late Johnny Ray Strand and Mattie (Clarence) Payton. On Friday, August 15, 2025, he departed this life at his residence in Mappsville, VA.
John received his education in the public schools of Accomack County. John's passion was being a skilled brick layer, creating structured foundations that were aesthetically pleasing to all. Everyone that crossed John's path was very pleased with his work.
John was married to his loving wife, Rose Strand, for more than 50 years. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. John enjoyed cooking breakfast and making his special pancakes. He liked going to horse races and watching all the kids in his family play games. Being outdoors and being around his family, laughing and sharing his love, was something that John truly cherished.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Preston Strand, and his parents.
He leaves his love and fond memories to his wife, Rose Strand; three sons, Warren (Connie) Payton of Seattle, WA, William (Shelley) Strand of Pocomoke, MD, and Prentice (Elizabeth) Strand of Temperanceville, VA; brothers, Harry Strand and Melvin Strand, both of Mappsville, VA; brothers-in-law, George (Liz) Payton and Steven Payton, both of Mappsville, VA; uncle, Jerome Wharton of Berlin, MD; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
As we pay tribute to the remarkable life of our Father, John Strand, we find great comfort in knowing that he has entered new journey, surrounded by love and eternal peace in heaven. Our fathers legacy, full of kindness, empathy, and wisdom, will continue to inspire and empower us, even as we navigate this difficult time. Although our father's physical presence will be deeply missed, the transformative impact of his life on to ours will continue to flourish. We will honor his cherished memory by embracing the love he shared, celebrating the countless lives he touched, and continuing to draw wisdom from the invaluable advice and stories he left behind. May we all find strength, comfort, and peace in the precious memories we shared with our father John Strand. Love you, Dad.
