JOHN D. SULLIVAN, 96, died peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on December 28, 2025, passing away 11 years after his beloved wife, Virginia, to the day.
He was the son of the late John G. Sullivan and Mary M. Sullivan of
West Roxbury, MA, and the devoted brother to his two sisters, the late Marie R. McNulty of Hingham, MA, and the late Eleanor Crehan of
West Roxbury, MA.
John was a graduate of Boston College and received his doctorate from Harvard University. He had a long and distinguished career in education as an executive with the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, D.C., after teaching in Boston and
Walpole, MA. He concluded his career as Superintendent of Schools in Charleston, South Carolina.
John was a proud Boston College Eagle. He served as President of the Boston College Club of Cape Cod, revitalizing that organization, sending busloads of fellow Eagles fans to Alumni Stadium for football games, as well as expanding the Club's social and charitable activities. He was an active member of Cummaquid Golf Club and the Osterville Men's Club.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Callahan of Osterville, and was "Uncle Bud" to many McNulty, Crehan, and Callahan nephews and nieces.
His family wishes to express their love and gratitude to John's caregiver, Patty O'Donnell, and her wonderful staff for their dedicated care and friendship to Uncle Bud. Their care allowed him to stay in his home in Osterville until his last illness.
