To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens: a time to be born, and a time to die: a time to plan, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
John Edward Tate Sr. was born to the union of the late Henry and Ethel Washington Tate on June 9, 1953 in New Orleans Louisiana. He entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
John, Ski-boo, as he was affectionately known was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. He attended John McDonogh High School and Delgado Community College. John served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1975 then enlisted in the Air Force Reserve.
As a diehard Saints fan, he had a lucky hand at playing dominoes, polishing up his great skills in bowling as well as mastering his gift of singing. He became a firefighter for the New Orleans Fire Department and mail clerk at the New Orleans VA Medical Center.
On September 20, 1975 John was united in holy matrimony to Stephanie Cannon.
Together they parented two sons, John Jr. and Cori Tate.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elder Henry Wilson (Daisy), Ethel Washington Tate, and three siblings, Ray Brown, Ricky Tate and Mark Tate.
John leaves to cherish his fine memories a loving and devoted wife, Stephanie Cannon Tate; two sons: John E. Tate Jr (LaShonda), Cori D. Tate; four granddaughters:
Kateria, Zion, Cyndee and Gabriella Tate; three brothers: Willie Coleman, Henry Tate Jr. (Daneen), Henry Tate III; six sisters: Patricia Collins (Wayne) Lois Collins (Lloyd), Brenda Brown, Cheryl Hills (Michael), Jennifer Tate, and Elizabeth Tate; two Godsons:
Roy Rondeno Jr. and Steven Augustine; an uncle, Rev. Samuel Tate, a devoted aunt Maggie Walker. Brother-in-law Lionel Cannon (Franciene); A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved and will miss him dearly.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of John(Skiboo). My heart goes out to the family during this time.
My fondness memory of Ski was when he would sing. He had a great voice. It will take a minute but memories last forever.
