John Thaxton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edwards Memorial Funeral Homes - University Place on May 26, 2025.
John Nakane Thaxton Jr, 64, of Mossyrock WA, passed away on May 6th 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Kane, as he is known by his family, was born on October 30th 1960 to Kulamanu and John Nakane Thaxton Sr. in Honolulu HI. Kane was the eldest of 6 children.
As a child, Kane and his family relocated to the mainland where the family established their roots in Redmond WA. Working for his father's construction company from a young age, Kane knew he would pursue a career in the industry. For over 50 years Kane worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator, he loved his work and took a lot of pride in his job. For a time, his job took him to places like Alaska, California, Montana, and New York, sometimes working alongside his brothers and sons.
In 1983 Kane met the mother of his children, Gina Hallowell. The couple went on to have two boys of their own, John Nakane Thaxton III and Clayton Thomas Kepooku Thaxton, as well as welcoming two other sons from Gina's previous marriage, Daniel Benson and Christopher Benson.
Kane loved his house in Mossyrock, his home was host to many family celebrations including birthdays, his son's wedding and some of the best 4th of July fireworks around. On summer days you could find him cruising and fishing Lake Mayfield on his pontoon (affectionately named the "Have-Knots"). In his free time, he enjoyed going on motorcycle rides with his brothers.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Nakane Thaxton Sr., his paternal grandparents Elsie (grandmother) and James Johnson, John Ogden (grandfather) and Mary Thaxton, and his maternal grandmother, Nellie Kaaumoana Kauihou.
He is survived by his children John, Clayton, Daniel and Christopher, his mother Kulamanu Thaxton, his sisters Sammy-Lee Kaaumoana Thaxton and Nancy-Jo Keakealani Endicott, his brothers Kris Kaohu Thaxton, Cy Kalamaku Thaxton, Leif Kaiona Thaxton, and many more aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins from the Peters and Waiwaiole O'hanas.
Kane's O'hana wishes to extend our aloha and mahalo for sharing in this day and this special time with us. Your prayers and kindness have meant so very much.
