TARBORO – John William Tulloss, Jr., age 82, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024. Born in Nash County, NC on April 21, 1941, he was the son of the late John William Tulloss, Sr. and Rebecca Harrison Tulloss.
John, a problem solver in every aspect of life, owned and operated Tulloss Equipment for over 30 years before passing it down to his youngest son, Scott. With his plethora of tools, he tackled building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical challenges, bringing solutions to fruition. But John's abilities extended beyond his craftsmanship. His remarkable personality allowed him to connect effortlessly with people from the janitor to the bank president, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Despite his calm and reserved demeanor, there was a quiet competitive nature within John, especially when it came to golf. While he loved sports, he wasn't one to simply watch. John was always ready to play. Whether it was shooting hoops with his kids or teeing off on the golf course, he embraced the joy of physical activity. His passion for golf brought him to Benvenue Country Club, where he indulged in the game, the camaraderie, and the pleasure of sipping adult cocktails, with of course, Sun Drop. But amidst his love for sports and leisure, John's greatest devotion was to his family. Their happiness and well-being meant the world to him. His love for them knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. John's life was a testament to his unwavering spirit, his boundless curiosity, and his genuine love for others. He will always be remembered as a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vicky Battle Tulloss; his children, John W. Tulloss, III and wife, Margo, Ashley T. Messick and husband, John, and Scott Tulloss and wife, Beth; his grandchildren, Hayden Coley and husband, Carter, Aly Hicks and husband, Wilson, Decatur Messick and wife, Sarah, Will Tulloss and wife, Lacy, Hackney Tulloss, Hannah Messick, Parker Tulloss, and Jackson Tulloss; his great-grandchildren, Mason Coley, Peyton Coley, and McLean Hicks; his brothers, Gus Tulloss and Fred Tulloss; his sister, Becky Wall and husband, Bill; and his sister-in-law, Sue Moore and husband, Ben.
