John VanNostrand Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Mar. 16, 2026.
John Robert VanNostrand, 82, of Irondequoit, N.Y. and Englewood, Fla. passed away at home surrounded by family on March 13, 2026 following a stroke a week earlier.

John was born on September 26, 1943 to Margaret and Roscoe VanNostrand in Rochester, N.Y. John was a graduate of Olympia High School and the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he received a degree in Architecture. John also served 6 years as an Army Reservist.

John was employed by Eastman Kodak, the University of Rochester, and later became self-employed as a manufacturer's representative for several lines of corporate furniture products.

In 1981, John met his future wife Sandy and for him it was love at first sight. They were married in 1983 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Greece, N.Y.

In 2000, John and Sandy retired and spent their time traveling, sailing, golfing, and reading their books side-by-side. They loved to take long drives, exploring new areas together in both New York and Florida.

John was predeceased by his parents Roscoe and Margaret, his granddaughter Sarah Dickman, and his beloved dogs Rebel and Maggie. He is survived by his devoted wife Sandy; daughters Lorin (Brandy) VanNostrand and Stephanie (Doug) Dickman; grandsons Connor Dickman, Cody VanNostrand, and Joshua VanNostrand; close cousins (Breens, Wilcox's, Hales, Gables); and many dear friends including his lifelong best friends, Jack and Donna Casetta and John and Lucy Appoloney. Later in life, John enjoyed a close relationship with his son-in-law, Doug, who he appreciated deeply and spoke about very fondly.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at a later date in Rochester, New York.
