John Vernon Walker, age 83, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Lakebridge Health Care in Johnson City. A native of Erwin, John is a son of the late Harry and Maybelle (Ivy) Walker. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Erwin and a member of the Elks Lodge # 1985. While living in California, he was the owner and operator of five gas stations. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Harris and Victoria Duncan, and one brother, Jack Walker.John Vernon Walker has left behind to cherish his memory: wife, Shirley Ann Pohto Walker; children: Eddie Walker (Patty) and Tanya Cook; step-children: Gregory Pohto and Brian Cloyd; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Pearl Peterson and Valerie Deaton; and brother-in-law, Herbert C. Deaton (Linda).The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of John Vernon Walker in a committal service to be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024 in the mausoleum chapel at Evergreen Cemetery. Dr. Buddy Corbin will officiate.
