Peoria- John J. Waugh, age 63, of Peoria, passed away at 1:59 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Born December 26, 1958 in Peoria, a son to Joseph A. Sr. and Fredericka (Dooley) Waugh. John graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked for the family company retiring as President of Waugh Foods Inc. On May 27, 2000 he married Darcy A. Leigh and she survives.
John spent 34 years in the food distribution/hospitality industry. People were his life. He did not meet anyone that he didn't call friend. He would do anything to help anyone in need and go the extra mile to make sure it was done correctly. He served his community on the Boards of The Children's Home, Proctor endowment, SouthSide Bank, Bradley Braves Club, and The Boys and Girls Club.
John's laugh was contagious, his smile bright and his gift of telling stories well known. He enjoyed family time, travel, golf and boating. As much as he loved his work, he would always claim his greatest accomplishment as his daughter Natalie and the love of all his family. John was surrounded by that love at the time of his departure to the home of our Savior. He will be forever missed and never forgotten as a husband, father, sibling and friend.
Survivors include his wife Darcy; one daughter Natalie Waugh; two stepdaughters: Jordan (Evan) Maxwell of Geneseo and Angella Hoffman of Appleton, WI; six grandchildren: Isabel, Sarah, Chase, Makenna, Owen and Kyser; two brothers: Joseph Jr. (Connie) Waugh and Timothy (Laura) Waugh; four sisters: Suzanne Waugh Masurat, Mary Ann "Mimi" (Dave) Findlay, Barbara (Mark) Ruff and Karen (Jim) Schwindenhammer all of Peoria; as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022 between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM at St. Jude Hettinger Hall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church with an additional visitation being held one hour prior to mass. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate, and cremation rites will follow mass.
Memorials in John's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, ST. Jude Catholic Church, or Unity Place Addiction Recovery Center, 5409 W. Knoxville, Ave.

Will miss you, John. Always enjoyed seeing you out and about. Bradley games or out at dinners, it was always fun to say hello. God bless my friend.

John was like a goofy big brother to me. I always laughed when he was around. He was a daily uplift as we worked at Waughs, a great captain of our softball team, and always a true friend to everyone. Strongly missed

You never meet or know 1 Waugh, you get the whole family! John was great to work and be challenged by. Always a smile and the disarming demeanor. Glad to have known him and learned a few things from him :)
