John "Jack" Weeden, 88 of Greenville, NC passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife Winnie of 65 years, four children, eldest grandson (who was like a son to him), and his grandsons wife. He was a devoted husband, father "Pop," grandfather "Papa" and great grandfather.
Jack was born on December 3, 1936 in Paterson, N.J. He graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 1954 and attended Upsala College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Geology with a minor in Chemistry. He played on Upsala's College varsity tennis team and intramural basketball team. Jack also served 6 months active duty and 5 years reserves in the New Jersey Nation Guard.
In 1959, early in his college years, Jack met and immediately fell in love with Winnie, the love of his life. They exchanged vows in 1959. Later that same year Jack accepted a job at Union Carbide Corporation, Eveready Battery Division, bringing them to Charlotte, North Carolina. Over the next six years, Winnie gave birth to their four children, Donna, Todd, Laurie, and John. In 1967 Jack was transferred to Greenville, NC where he managed the Quality Control Lab. After 39 years of company service, he retired as Director of Quality and Specifications, International and Domestic at Eveready. After retiring they moved back to Greenville, NC.
Jack enjoyed flipping houses, managing their beach house in Emerald Isle, NC, searching for minerals and shark's teeth, playing competitive bridge achieving the rank of Silver Life Master, collecting coins and spending time with his family. He was passionate about maintaining a pristine yard. Beyond his passions and joys he included a separate category which he had entitled: "Things that I love more than life itself': My wife, Wink, who is truly one of God's special people, my children, who all turned out to be good people, grandchildren, and my great grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Harold Cromwell Weeden, his mother, Helen Foulkes Weeden, as well as his brother, Robert Weeden. He is survived by his wife, Winnie Weeden, children, Donna Kinder (Bob) of Indianapolis, IN, Todd Weeden, Strongsville, OH, Laurie Weeden, North Ridgeville, OH, John Weeden (Kristen), Avon Lake, OH. Grandchildren, Derek Weeden (Yesenia) Raeford, NC, Olivia Weeden, NY, NY, Bobby Kinder (Kaitlyn), Fishers, IN, Lauren Kinder, Indianapolis, IN, Brie Horvath, London, England, Maddie Weeden, Avon, Lily Weeden, San Diego, CA, Tori Weeden Columbus, OH, Georgia Weeden, Columbus, OH. Lexi Weeden, Strongsville, OH. Great grandchildren, Avigail Mendoza Nery, Raeford, NC, Landen Weeden, Raeford, NC, and Sienna Weeden, Raeford, NC, Noahn Paramo, Raeford, NC, Riley Kinder, Fishers, IN, Reid Kinder, Fishers IN.
The family will hold a private ceremony in Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to extend our thanks to the Hospice staff and Chaplin, for their professionalism and compassion during this challenging time. We are forever grateful to our friends and neighbors for their generosity and kindness these past few weeks.
