John Weever Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Glen Rose on Oct. 24, 2025.
John S. Weever Jr., 87, of Cleburne, passed away October 23, 2025. Born in Dallas to John and Barbara L. Weever of Sherman, he grew up with a sharp mind, generous heart, and even sharper sense of humor.
A graduate of Hillcrest High School in Dallas, John attended the University of Colorado as a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army during the late 1950s, including time stationed in Korea. He later earned his Master's degree at Southern Illinois University, where he met his wife, Sandra "Sue" Weever. They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family.
John's career began as a city planner in Fort Worth before he moved to Cleburne and opened a State Farm insurance agency. His integrity, wit, and genuine care for people made him a trusted figure in the community for decades.
John lived life on his own terms as a passionate hunter, sailor, motorcyclist, and traveler with a lifelong love of fast cars. A gun collector with appreciation for fine craftsmanship, he also designed and created custom knives-work that reflected his precision, artistry, and creativity, earning him recognition among fellow craftsmen and members of the Knife Guild. Above all, John was known for his generosity, humor, and sanguine spirit that brightened every gathering.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Webb (Harold).
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Sue Weever; children Lesly Spencer (Tom), Todd Weever (Jennifer), and Grant Weever (Stacie); grandchildren Cameron Weever, Caleb Weever, Tanner Martin, and Sevin Newport; great-grandchildren Elaina Fincher, Grace Martin, and Rowan Young; nephew Rodney Gist (Lisa); and many dear friends.
A celebration of life graveside gathering will be held at Ward Branch Cemetery in Glen Rose, near Fossil Rim, Thursday, October 30, 2025, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
John will be remembered for his generosity, loving heart of gold, big personality, charm, zest for life, tenacity, courage, and deep love for his family.
