John W. Wieland of Staten Island, NY passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the age of 84. He passed peacefully at Carmel Richmond Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
John was born in Brooklyn on November 22, 1938, to father John Wieland Sr. and mother Catherine Wieland. The third of four children, John helped his family by starting work at an early age. His hard-work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him joining the New York Police Department at age 26 where he served on the Force for 20 years. As a young man, he was also a member of the National Guard. Before and after his work with the NYPD, he was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 28 union, physical work that he enjoyed very much.
John found solace and enjoyment in social activities and nature. He loved golfing, fishing, and camping. He was also a connoisseur of cookies!
John is survived by his wife Veronica; children James, Michael, Adrienne, and daughter-in-law Kaite; grandchildren Joseph, Samantha, Chloe Veronica, and Riley John. His tireless love and devotion to his family were evident in his final moments.
A Funeral service will be offered at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Feb 9th at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. located at 28 Eltingville Blvd Staten Island, New York 10312. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
