John Walter Wilie Sr passed away on Aug 1, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born October 16,1945 in Gatesville,Texas, the son of Walter D. Wilie and Lorene Wilson Wilie.
Walter grew up in Gatesville, TX, and graduated from Killeen High School. In his younger years, Walter served his country as a Marine. He later became a well known figure in the manufactured housing industry, and worked in the industry for over 40 years.
In 1989, he moved his family across the country for work and established a home in Sumter, SC. While in South Carolina, he and his wife enjoyed trips to the beach, but the trips to the mountains of North Carolina were some of the best times of their lives. In 2007 Walter moved him and his wife back to Texas where they lived out their remaining years.
Anyone who knew Walter knew he was a sports fanatic. He would wake up out of a dead sleep to check the score of a baseball game. He was a devoted sports fan through and through. At times, he would even go watch high school playoff games.
Walter was a proud father, grandfather, and husband. Walter is survived by his children, Carla Frierson, Jesse Wilie, John Wilie Jr "Scooter", and Wendy Lamb; nine grandchildren, Nicole Austin, Courtney Weir, Abigail Little, Jenna Little, Hannah Wilie, Julia Wilie, Zoe Wilie, Elaina Wilie, and Xavier Cook; nine great grandchildren; and three brothers, Terry Wilie, Eldon Wilie and Curtis Wilie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter D Wilie and Lorene Wilie; wife, Patricia Watson Wilie; three sisters and one brother.
Walter was residing in Lockhart, Texas at the time of his death.
The family plans to have a private celebration of life at a later date.
