John H. Willard

Dover, NH - Army Veteran John Harrington Willard, a resident of Dover Neck Road, Dover, NH died May 11, 2023.
John was born February 1, 1937, in Rutland, VT, the son of Egbert R. and Clara (Draper) Willard.
The family moved to Dover in June of 1941 and John attended areas schools and later received his GED while serving his country in the US Army. He was also a member of Battery B 737 FA Battalion in 1955 before going into active service.
John met the love of his life, Carol Ann Casey, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James J. Casey, Sr. of Rochester and they were married on October I, 1960, at St. Mary's Church in Rochester.
John followed in his father's footsteps and was an excellent welder. After working in the area of business he too went to work, as his father before him, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and retired on April 30, 1993. After retirement he continued his craft helping others when needed.
He had a love for the outdoors, enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, ATV's and camping out with family and friends. You could also find him shoveling the snow off the ice so his daughters and wife could enjoy ice skating.
John's quiet manner and friendly disposition drew many friends to his "man cave". After the loss of his dear wife, these friends became an even more important part of his life.
John was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He took pride in his family. John is survived by two very caring and devoted daughters without whom he could not have endured these last few years. Carol A. (Stephen D.) Horne of Milton, NH, and Debra M. (Robert) Powers of South Berwick, ME. Stephen (Suzanna) Horne, grandson and Rebecca Powers, granddaughter. great grandchildren Jareth K., Auryn C. Horne. A brother Richard R. Willard and his wife Veronica of Dover and sister Marie W. Walton and her husband Clyde of Meadville, PA.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Carol on December 28, 2012, his brother Raymond E. Connor, and sisters C. Jean Gahan Virgin and Barbara "Bunky" Hillsgrove, an infant granddaughter Jessica Horne.
Services will be held at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave, Dover NH. May 18, 2023. Calling hours will be 1-3pm and 5-7pm. A private burial at Pine Hill Cemetery in Dover NH will be May 19, 2033, at 9:00am.
