John Wills Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory - Downtown Suffolk on Dec. 27, 2025.
John "Johnny" Ramey Wills, III, 81, was called to his heavenly home by His Lord and Savior on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025. He was the son of the late John "Jack" Ramey Wills Jr. and Betty Wills. He was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle.
After receiving a bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman College and a master's degree in business from Virginia Tech, Johnny joined his father in the family's general contracting business. A life-long learner, he had a love and understanding of the contracting business as evidenced by the many residential and commercial structures the firm of J.R. Wills & Sons constructed in the area.
Johnny enjoyed a relationship with Jesus and read the Psalms, his favorite book of the Bible, daily. He was active in his church serving as a deacon and led a men's small group Bible study. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his family on the farm he grew up on and where he lived. He was a fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies, baseball, boating, offshore fishing and classic corvettes. He loved dogs and Chevy pick-up trucks and spent many hours driving the backroads in Isle of Wight County, which he thought was the most beautiful place on earth. Upon his retirement he served on the board of the Southeastern Correctional Ministry where he particularly enjoyed assisting with the organization's annual golf tournament.
Survivors include his children Kathryn Elizabeth Wills and John Ramey Wills IV and wife Lisa; granddaughter Lexus Wills; sister Beverley W. Ruegsegger and husband Ronald; brother William Sexton Wills and wife Patricia, cousin Gess Wills and wife Karen; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Ruffin Alphin on Friday December 5, at 11 AM in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk VA. A private burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Thursday, December 4, from 6 to 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers as a memorial, it is requested that contributions be made to Southeastern Correctional Ministry Inc., 40 Kings Way, Hampton VA. 23669. Condolences may be registered at www.RWBakerFH.com.
