John H Wittekind III "Jack", 94, passed away on September 15, 2024. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Janet M. Wittekind and first wife Barbara Levenbaum, mother to his three children. Born in 1930 in Boston to his parents, the late John H Wittekind II and Alice (Regovizio) Wittekind. He's survived by his sisters Carol Joy and Janet Regan and his two sisters who predeceased him in death, Jean Porter and Lois Telch. He leaves behind two children, John A Wittekind and Susan Murphy and her husband Stephen and is predeceased by his daughter Cynthia Wittekind. Jack has 5 grandchildren Amy Wittekind, Christine Schmitt, Carolyn Hamblin, Shane Murphy, Keynan Murphy and 8 great grandchildren Sophia Wittekind, Schyuler Hamblin, Stephanie Pappas, Rachel McEnroe, Isabella Schmitt, Everleigh Murphy and Mark Schmitt. He is predeceased by Thomas Hamblin.
Jack was a talented woodworker, comfortable working as a general carpenter or making fine furniture. He worked as a lead carpenter for Falconi Companies and later Flately Co. for years before retiring and becoming self-employed. He was a proud member of the rank and file in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 346 and served in the National Guard as a young man. Being an avid fishermen and outdoorsman, he knew all the best fishing spots in his neck of the woods and even traveled to Alaska to fish for salmon. Jack was a man of few words but was a popular member of several sportsman's clubs in the Plymouth Carver area where he made lifelong friendships. He loved his garden, the hummingbirds and the people he was deeply connected to. Finally, Jack's superpower was his ability to calmly roll with the changes and challenges of a full life spanning 94 years. It is an understatement to say he will be missed and fondly remembered. Sail on into the wild blue Jack, your time to rest has come.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on September 25, Wednesday from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Carver, MA 02330. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM across the street at Center Cemetery, Carver, MA.
