Kulpmont – John "Jake" E. Wojcik, 75, of 1322 Scott Street, passed away on April 20, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on August 21, 1949, at Ashland State Hospital, the son of the late Edward and Helen (Motyka) Wojcik.
Jake was a lifelong resident of Kulpmont. He graduated from Mount Carmel Area High School, Class of 1967, where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. He worked as a CDL instructor for PennDOT and later as a groundskeeper for the Mount Carmel Area School District athletic fields, retiring in 2023.
In 1973, he married the former Patti A. Shuda, who survives.
Jake was a member of the Catholic faith. He was inducted into the Ed Romance Hall of Fame in 2014. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed golf, Phillies baseball, Flyers hockey, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.
A passionate fast-pitch softball player, Jake was a catcher for Shuda's Café and the St. Francis Home Association in Shamokin. He also dedicated many years to coaching, including Little League baseball for the Mount Carmel Moose and the Atlas Fire Company, including his grandson, football for the Mount Carmel Jets Midget Football team, girls' softball for Shamokin High School, and the co-op softball team for Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Lourdes High Schools. He was also active in supporting the Mount Carmel Special Olympics.
Jake especially cherished golfing trips to Florida with his three best friends: Frank "Dabby" Niglio (recently deceased), Anthony "Jr." Moleski, and Greg Doviak.
Jake is survived by his wife, Patti A. Wojcik of Kulpmont; two daughters, Becky Milkovitz and husband, Mike of Roebuck, SC, and Laurie Scicchitano and husband, Phillip of Kulpmont; three granddaughters, Carly Jurasich, Macy Milkovitz, and Cali Milkovitz; a grandson, Jacob Hartman; a sister, Rose Pecaitis and husband, Frank of Kulpmont; a brother, Edward Wojcik and wife, Maryann of Kulpmont; a mother-in-law, Rita Shuda of Kulpmont; a sister-in-law, Darlene Shannon and husband, Cel of MD; and a brother-in-law, Ed Shuda and wife, Mary of MD; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his beloved cat "Boo". Jake was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the C J Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, PA. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10th, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home.
