John R. Wright, 81, passed in the early morning hours of July 22, 2023, at Princess Anne Health and Rehab following a long battle with lung, heart and cancer issues. He was born to John Charles Wright and Gladys Bell (Hartle) Wright on January 23, 1942, at Sibley Hospital in DC.
John graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in 1960 then joining the Army where he was attached to the JAG department. He then later went on to study at Old Dominion. Johns accomplishments were many, with his father he assisted in building many hotels and apartment complexes, setting him up to be recognized with many awards from Choice Hotels and other establishments for his work and leadership in the Hotel and Motel industry. He loved to ride quarter horses and held many titles with the AQHA and ECCHA while riding and showing Cutting horses all over the country. Adding to his list are the works he has done with his masonic lodge in Leesburg Va. Along with his work as a Shriner with the Kena temple.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Inabelle Marlene (Phillips) Wright and long time soulmate Dianna L. Thompson. From these he is survived by a plethora family. His Daughter Lea (Wright) Mills brought him 4 grand children and 1 step grandchild, Donovan, Krystal, Caleb, Piper, Charles. His son John V. Wright and wife Kelly C. (Pearson) Wright, bringing him 4 grand children and 2 step grandchildren, John Stryder, Noah, Willow, Fiona, Connor and Owen. He will also be remembered by Bailey Mosley granddaughter to his beloved Dianna along with TT and Asha, niece and great niece to Dianna.
A service of remembrance will be held 4pm Monday July 31 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Great Neck Chapel, 1264 N Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. There is a graveside service at a date to be determined that will be held in Arlington VA where he will be interred with his parents. For those who wish to remember Dick in a special way may make gifts in his memory to First tee- Hampton Roads, 2400 Tournament Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.
