John J. Young Jr. Jr.

John J. Young Jr., 69, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025. John's life was filled with love for family and simple pleasures that brought him happiness.Born on November 3, 1955 at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, John was predeceased by his beloved mother, Catherine Young, and is survived by his father, John J. Young Sr.; siblings Thomas and Carol Young, Deborah and Kevin Slattery, Daniel and Carol Young; nieces/nephews and partners, Thomas and Tara Young, Virginia and Derrick Vanderpool, James and Ella Slattery, Julie Slattery and Paul Watson, Jocelyn Young and Warren VanderVen, Daniel Young, Michael and Jordan Young, Arianna Young and Kevin Horan. "Uncle John" had a special love for all his nieces and nephews that they returned in equal measure. John's working years began at Perkins Pancake House, where his strong work ethic and good humor first shone. He went on to dedicate many years to Anitec and Maine's, taking pride in a job well done. John was a devout Catholic who faithfully attended Mass Saturday evenings. He loved family card games of International Rummy, Sunday breakfast at local diners followed by shopping trips to local stores, old cars, the occasional trip to the casino and time spent with his family at Lake Winola where he developed lasting memories. In recent years, John found daily comfort and camaraderie at the Broome West Senior Center. With the help of Deanna he found friendship with other clients, enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and was also a regular at Wii bowling. The friendships he made there added great meaning to his days. The family extends their deepest gratitude to his family physician Dr. John Perry, hospice nurse Lauren, social worker Christa, and aide Kim for their exceptional care and compassion. Sincere thanks also go to everyone at Mercy House for the kindness and dignity they offered John in his final days. Calling hours will be on Thursday July 17, 2025 at 12 Noon at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas Avenue, Binghamton followed by a funeral Mass at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Mercy House of the Southern Tier or Broome West Senior Center.
