Obituary for John Young

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of John Young, a beloved father, and cherished friend, who departed this life on January 1, 2026, at the age of 59. Born on August 23, 1966, in Bealeton, Virginia, John was adopted at an early age by Louis and Geneva Young, and he grew up in Gainesville, Florida. He attended Gainesville High School, where he not only excelled academically but also embraced the camaraderie of sports as a football player and demonstrated leadership as a member of the ROTC, graduating with the class of 1984.

John dedicated much of his life to the construction industry, honing his skills as a brick and block mason while working at the University of Florida for many years. His talents extended beyond carpentry; he was also a skilled auto mechanic and even drove a fruit truck for a time. In 2010, John made St. Augustine his home, where he continued to bring his hardworking spirit and unwavering kindness to everyone around him. Those who knew him appreciated his willingness to lend a hand and his desire to help others in their times of need.

A man of deep faith, John lived out his beliefs daily, reflecting a commitment to his values that inspired many. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially sports and fishing, activities that brought him peace and fulfillment.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Louis & Geneva Young and a daughter, Mariah Young. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Keona Scott of Gainesville; sons, John "Peanut" Young, Jr of Germany, and Javonte Young of Gainesville; 5 brothers, 4 sisters, 5 half brothers and 2 half sisters. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A visitation will be begin at 5 pm, with a funeral service beginning at 6 pm Saturday, January 17, 2026 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home with Pastor James Axen officiating.

As we gather to celebrate John's life, we will share stories and memories, finding solace in the impact he had on each of us. In our hearts, John's legacy of love, faith, and kindness will be cherished forever.
