Johnny Ray Hackney

Johnny Ray Hackney, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73. Born in Inez, Kentucky on May 24, 1952, to Edith and Robert Hackney, Johnny grew up among the hills and mountains he loved so much. His early years in Kentucky shaped his enduring strength, warmth, and deep appreciation for life. He later made his home in Franklinton, Ohio, where he lived for over five decades after meeting the love of his life, Lorene. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared 53 joyful years of marriage. Johnny was a man of strength and unwavering devotion. He was the rock of his family and a father figure to many beyond his children. He is survived by his wife Lorene, his siblings Garlin and Dorothy, and his children Sheena, Eric (Mandy), and Jason (Liz). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Britni (Stephen), Alicia (Christian), Grant (Rachel), Sydney, Morgan, Owen, and Elliot, and great-grandchildren Evelyn and Carter. Those who knew Johnny will remember his quick wit, big heart, and contagious love for life. He found joy in simple pleasures-riding motorcycles with his sons, sharing laughter with his grandchildren, and doing anything and everything to make Lorene smile. His presence lit up a room, and his kindness left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Johnny lived with purpose and heart, embodying compassion and strength. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched. Look twice. Save a life.
