Johnny Peeples Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. Louis Cremation - Downtown from Nov. 18 to Nov. 19, 2022.
Johnny (John) Walter Peeples was born October 7,1941 in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was the second eldest and only son of six children born to Mayme (Sloan) Peeples and Hazael Peeples that included sisters Patricia (Ron) Barnes, Reveille Knight, Marjorie Peeples, Lois Peeples, Dorothy Ohiomoba.

Johnny graduated from St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School and Vashon High School where he was in the marching band and excelled in football. He earned a scholarship to San Jose State University. Later John enlisted in the United States Army. John worked as a St. Louis Firefighter for 30 years, retiring as a Captain. Later he and his wife, Carolyn, established Peeples Real Estate company.

Johnny's first marriage produced two children; Yusef Kywan Peeples Brown and Jacqueline Peeples Brown and granddaughter Caitlin Etoh. He lovingly mentored and educated twins Bridget and Bridgenda Dampier from his second marriage.

John was united into holy matrimony in 1984 to Carolyn Mills and in this union he gained a step-daughter Alesia Mills, a step-son Roy Mills, Jr; two granddaughters Jordan Davis and Brooke Sidener; and one grandson Fredrick Sean Davis, Jr.

The sunset came for him on November 12, 2022, at St Joseph's Hospital, after he told his last joke.

John was a strong, independent, and courageous person. He was loyal, loving, and protective of his family. He was more a father than a grandfather, providing guidance to his entire family. He was also a mentor to his firefighter community by initiating changes for equality in the St. Louis Fire Department. He will be sorely missed.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Hazael and Mayme Peeples; his son Yusef Kywan (Peeples) Brown; his sisters Reveille Knight and Marjorie Peeples Hogan.

He leaves to cherish loving memories a host of nieces and nephews and loving friends.
