Johnny Mack Wilson, 84 passed away Friday, October 13, 2023. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17th at the Lone Camp Baptist Church, followed by burial in New Gordon Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 16th at Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn, 5~7 p.m.
Johnny Mack was the only surviving child born to Albert Wilson and Mona Stephens Wilson. He was born on September 4, 1939 in Millsap. He graduated from Santo High School in 1958.
He met the Love of his life, Sue Hunt, one Sunday night at church and they later married on August 24, 1971. They were blessed with the birth of their son, David, on March 27, 1973. They spent years learning to farm, ranch and juggle lots of doctor's appointments due to David's illness, but that didn't slow them down. When David was able, he enjoyed being out in the Israel melon patch right along with them. They went through a very devastating time when they lost their only son at the young age of 19. Luckily, they had their faith in God, and they had each other. Into his 60's their lives took a strange turn; they were given the opportunity to bless, Joe Wilson, with their time and wisdom. They were given the role to be grandparents. Sue went home to be with David on August 12, 2023.
Johnny Mack was a farmer/rancher for 44 years where he raised peanuts and melons, and was a gas plant operator for Mitchell Energy for a time. He was a member of the Lone Camp Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a Sunday School teacher. He was a charter member of the Lone Camp Volunteer Fire Department. He was a huge history buff and loved giving tours of Johnson League and was a member of the Palo Pinto County Historical Commission. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, was a gun enthusiast, and had a knack for restoring or repurposing anything. He had a passion for singing and playing the guitar and loved singing at musicals.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Leah Martz; several cousins, nieces and nephews by marriage; and community friends. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community and church for their many years of attention and care given to the Wilson's. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Jack Milton.
