Johnson (John) L. Chiong of Hoffman Estates, Illinois went home to his Lord Jesus Christ on November 17, 2025.
Johnson was born in the Philippines in 1939. He came to the United States to study Business at Indiana University, then followed a job opportunity to Chicago, where he built a long and respected career. He received his MBA from the Loyola School of Business and completed his CPA requirements then served as the CFO of Frederick Cooper Lamps for decades. He led their international sales division and later became part-owner. He played a key role in the eventual sale of the business and property upon the founders' retirement.
Johnson loved classic movies, fishing, good food, the Chicago Bears, and simply being with family. He volunteered and helped organizations with their accounting. He had an incredible memory and could talk about almost any subject in great detail. He made friends everywhere he went, always starting with his familiar question to anyone he talked with or who helped him: "What is your name?" His default mood was consistently positive and friendly. He was observant, wise, and had a natural gift for numbers and history. He was always learning and always solving problems before they arrived.
More than anything, Johnson found his greatest joy in caring for his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katty; his children, Roddy Chiong and Erika Claud (Dan); and his grandchildren, Daniel and Katerina.
