Jolson "Joey" Dominguez, 22, of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly on October 6, 2024 at his home.
Jolson was born in New Haven on May 20, 2002, the firstborn son of Teresa Salinas and Joel Dominguez of Wallingford.
He started playing Wallingford Youth Soccer when he was 4 years old and enjoyed his time on various teams. He then played for Sheehan High School. He played basketball on his home court and at Quinnipiac Trail Park. Joey was a devoted supporter of Liverpool FC and he could be found watching soccer on weekend mornings with his dad and younger brother. He also followed Formula 1 racing, the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, UFC, and tennis. He was a gamer, playing Valorant, Call of Duty, FIFA, and Rocket League with friends.
Beyond sports, Joey had a profound love for music. He found joy in attending concerts with his sister, Mirka, creating memories that will last forever. His taste ranged from Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino to TwoDoorCinemaClub and Arctic Monkeys to house music and he took pride in building a record collection that reflected his diverse musical interests.
During the pandemic, Jolson discovered a new passion for baking and cooking. He delighted family and friends with homemade sourdough bread, sticky rice, cookies, and pasta. Joey loved eating his favorite foods, which included New Haven pizza, sushi, ramen, burgers, tacos del pastor and traditional Mexican corundas.
A proud graduate of Mark T. Sheehan High School, Class of 2020, Joey was pursuing his passion for technology at Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT, studying Computer Engineering. He most recently worked at CT STEM Academy in Wallingford and was beloved by students and staff. Previously, he worked at Amazon, Choate Rosemary Hall, and Colony Diner.
In addition to his parents, Teresa and Joel, he is survived by his older sister, Mirka Dominguez-Salinas and her partner Elias Estabrook of New Haven, and his younger brother, Joel C. Dominguez of
Wallingford, CT. He also leaves behind his maternal and paternal grandparents in Lagunillas, Michoacán, Mexico, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins across Georgia, Kentucky, California, Texas, and Mexico who will cherish his memory and the love he brought to their lives.
Jolson's family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 4 pm until 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, October 18, 2024, directly at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. The interment will be at a later date in Mexico.
