He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Gordon Evans, Sr., and Tommie Davis Evans; Delilah Ruth Evans and Patricia Nell Evans.
Jon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janice Ruth Evans; his children, Jon T. Evans, Jr. (Jessica) and Margaret R. Jon, aka Tim, left Alabama in 1965 for the Army as a medic in Germany where he achieved the rank of Specialist 5. After his tour was completed in 1967, he went to work for Haze aircraft plant in Alabama sealing fuel tanks. When that job was cut short Jon and his family left for Mississippi where he started a thirty-one-year career at Ingalls Ship Building in 1975. Jon started as a painter and because of his hard work, can do attitude and innovation he retired as a trades manager from Ingalls Ship Building in 2006. That wasn’t enough for Jon though, for the next four years he worked with the Mississippi Department of Safety as a Katrina grant auditor.
His hobbies are auctioning, working on cars, buying, and selling cars.
A member of Church of God, Jon’s life touched many lives, always a witness for God, and if someone was in need he was there to help. Jon’s life was an inspiration to his children, grandchildren and so many others. The only things Jon loved more than life is God, his beautiful bride Janice of 54 years, his children, and grandchildren. Jon was highly respected by all who met him and even if you had only just met him you knew he was a man of God.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Light, nurses, Michael Gray, Gina Darby and Serena, for all their dedication; we would also like to thank his neighbor, Chuck Deel for his kindness during Jon's health battle.
