We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jon Dale Ficklin on January 16th, 2025, at
the age of 67. Jon was born on December 17th, 1957 in Washington, Indiana to Ivan
and Ardella (Seng) Ficklin.
Jon attended Petersburg High School for three years and was proud to be in the first
graduating class of Pike Central High School in 1975, where he was a notable three
sport varsity athlete. He went on to graduate college in 1979 with a Bachelor's degree
from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He married his high school
sweetheart and love of his life Sandy (Wood) Ficklin a month after graduation.
Jon and Sandy settled in Petersburg after college, and Jon went to work for his father
Ivan at Ficklin Auto Supply. After Ivan's death in 1984, Jon and his brother Jim
continued to run the store together until Jim's passing. Jon poured his heart and soul
into the business to keep the memory of his father's generous and kind spirit towards
customers alive for the next 25 years. Jon always cherished the conversations he had
with customers and the friendships he made throughout the years.
Jon was long an active member of the community. He was a member of the Optimus
Club and various softball leagues. He sponsored and coached Little League, and
served as a middle school football coach at Pike Central for many years.
He loved golfing, reading about history and sports, mushroom hunting, and traveling to
state parks with his family. Jon was a sports fanatic with an encyclopedic memory of
particularly Pike Central and Indiana University sports.
Jon was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg and a religious
education teacher for over a decade, receiving the Brute award from the Diocese of
Evansville for his service to the Church.
Nothing meant more to Jon than his family, especially his granddaughter. He loved his
entire family deeply and held on to every memory he ever made with them.
Jon will be missed dearly by his wife of 45 years Sandy, son Dan Ficklin, daughter
Jennifer (Hunter Oxby), granddaughter Della Oxby; mother-in-law Elisabeth Wood,
brother and sister in-law Ron and Andrea Wood, sister in-law Debby Ficklin, and several
beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death and never forgotten were his parents, brothers Ron and Jim
Ficklin, and father-in-law Richard Wood.
Visitation will be from 10-1:30 PM EST on Friday, January 24, at Harris Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at
Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, both in Petersburg.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Pike County EMS, first responders, Dr.
Gary Keepes, Nick Henson and Harris Funeral Home, Sts. Peter and Paul Church, and
all other friends and family who have reached out in this devastating time.
