Published by Legacy on Nov. 4, 2025.
Jon Douglas Hovey, 83, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 1,
2025. He was born February 12, 1942 and was raised by his parents Seth and Viola in
Ruthven, Iowa.
On March 1, 1997, Jon married Betty Hovey and they began their life together, creating
a home that reflected their shared love, kindness, and joy.
Jon will always be remembered for his big heart, lively personality, and sense of humor. He
brought joy to everyone around him and was known for his kindness, generosity, and steadfast
spirit.
A proud American, Jon honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to
1968. His love of country and respect for fellow veterans remained a guiding force throughout
his life. Following his service, he became an active member of the Sunrise Beach American
Legion, where he forged lasting friendships and continued to serve his community with pride.
We will always picture Jon playing cards with friends, sharing stories and laughter, and enjoying
time by the lake with his family. His memory will live forever in the hearts of those who loved
him.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Viola Hovey of Ruthven, Iowa, and his
daughter, Jana Canny of Des Moines, Iowa. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hovey of
Sunrise Beach, Missouri; his sister, Carolyn Felker of San Diego, California; his son, Stacy
Hovey and daughter-in-law, Michelle Hovey of Des Moines, Iowa; his son-in-law, Todd Canny of
Des Moines, Iowa; and his fifteen grandchildren, who will always cherish his love, humor, and
strength.
Jon's life was one of service, laughter, and love-values that will continue to inspire all who
knew him.
