Jon Allen Hoy, 86 was born January 16, 1936 and passed away November 9, 2022 at home with his wife by his side.
Jon grew up on a farm west of Adel and attended Adel Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1955. He was very active in all sports and was recently honored at the Hall of Fame Ceremony in Adel. He attended Iowa State University and Drake University. Jon was drafted into the Army October 8, 1958 and honorably discharged on October 7, 1960 spending his tenure stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Jon met Ruth Grout at a singles square dance class in Des Moines. They enjoyed dancing for many years and were married in 1964 and had one son Randy. They lived in Des Moines until 1970 and moved to a farm west of Adel and lived there until moving to Urbandale in 2017.
Jon was a farmer, and a draftsman for PDM Steel Co. for a number of years. He always had Harley motorcycles. He began playing bridge in late years and enjoyed doing so until this past year. Jon owned horses and enjoyed riding, performing at horse shows and going on trail rides. He was an avid skier and skied until he was old enough to get free lifts to the top of the mountain. Camping at the lowa State Fair was a top priority in August using the same camping spot for over 30 years. After Ruth retired they both enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome spending winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, son Randy (Michelle) grandsons, Brendan and Tristan, brothers, Lowell and Bob, sisters Corinne and Julie (Steve), Brother-in-Laws, Dale (Jean), Kenneth, Robert and Ronald(Nancy) and many cousins, nieces and nephews and long time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Zelma Hoy, brother-in-laws, Kaz, Donald, Harold, Charles and Marvin, Sisters-in-Laws, Audrey, Elsie, Doris Marie, Joanne, Janice, La Donna and Pearl.
He was cremated and buried at a private ceremony at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, lowa. Memorials may be made to the ADM Alumni Association in Adel, lowa.
