Jon Peter Magnuson, 41, of Marquette and longtime Negaunee resident, passed away of natural causes Tuesday morning, February 20, 2024 at his home.
Jon was born August 24, 1982 in Ishpeming to Peter and Ann (Ruohomaki) Magnuson and graduated from Negaunee High School. He worked many jobs over the past years; at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans, UP Health System Marquette, and most recently as a corrections officer at the Marquette Branch Prison until he was injured while on duty.
Jon met the love of his life, Chelsea Schwemin, in 2016 and together they had two children, Zandyn and Azariah. He treated Chelsea's son, Rorrick like his own son. Being a father to his children was his most cherished title.
In his free time, Jon enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling and side-by-side rides. Most of all, he loved his time with his family, especially taking his kids fishing and vacationing at the Great Wolf Lodge.
Surviving are his beloved children: Zandyn, Azariah and Rorrick; his brother, Jeffrey Magnuson of Marquette; aunt, Diane (Gary) Hamel of Champion; uncles: Paul Ruohomaki, Mark (Teresa) Ruohomaki and Don (Alice) Magnuson; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Tyra Magnuson.
Private family services will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery in the spring. Jon's family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be directed for his children's 529 education accounts as follows: checks made payable to Michigan Education Savings Program and mailed to 3505 County Road AG, Champion, MI 49814.
