Jon "Papa" Hamel, a cherished figure to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, passed away on October 7, 2025, in Copperas Cove, Texas, at the age of 58. Born on April 11, 1967, in Albany, New York, Jon lived a life characterized by loyalty, humor, and unwavering love for his family.
Known affectionately as “Papa,” Jon was a devoted husband to Ruby and an adoring father to Christina, Cody, Rebekka, Micahel and Sandy. He welcomed each of his children with open arms and a heart full of love. His commitment to family extended beyond his children, as he also embraced his Son-in-law Sean and Daughter-in-law Sara, treating them as his own. Jon took immense pride in his role as a grandfather and treasured the moments spent with his grandchildren: Antonio "AJ," Stefan, Brian, Dominique, Gabriel, Arayah, Jailynn, Adrian, Aionna, and Sean Jr. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in nurturing a close bond with them.
Jon’s personality shone brightly, marked by his great sense of humor and an ability to bring smiles to those around him. He was known to wear his heart on his sleeve and always extended his loyalty to friends and family alike. An ultimate Raiders fan, he cheerfully shared his passion for the team with everyone he encountered.
Jon was preceded in death by his devoted mother, Leona, and father, Arnold, as well as his grandson, O'Donis.
Jon "Papa" Hamel leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
