Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jon Blair Thomas, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025 in his home in
Orem, Utah. He was a man of unwavering kindness, gentle strength, and a quick, warm sense of humor. His family thought that he was the inventor of "Dad Jokes", that brought smiles and laughter to a lot of people..
Jon was born May 12,1937 in Alhambra, California to his parents William Blair Thomas and Madge Oberhansley Thomas. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived a life filled with love, faith, and service. As a young man, he served a mission in Mexico, where he developed a deep love for the Spanish language and culture, as well as for the people he served. Later in life, he and his sweetheart, MaryLinda, served as senior missionaries in Nauvoo, where they shared their faith and love with others. One of Jon's greatest passions was music; Classical, Dixieland and Barbershop, and he delighted in playing the banjo and clarinet-sharing his musical talent, lifting and bringing smiles to those around him.
A gifted teacher, Jon taught high school Spanish and German for forty years. He loved serving in various capacities in the church, twice as Bishop and with his last calling being a Sunday School teacher. Most importantly, he loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His lessons were not just about knowledge, but about kindness, humility, being positive, and the importance of family.
He was devoted to Mary Linda, his eternal companion, whom he always called "Sweetheart", and was married in the Logan Temple, celebrating 63 years of marriage. Together, they created a life full of laughter, love, and adventures. Their bond was one of unwavering devotion, and the joy they shared was reflected in the lives they touched.
In addition to his musical talents, Jon enjoyed woodworking and crafted many beautiful treasures for his family-gifts that will forever remind them of his love and skill. His creativity, warmth, and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Though we will miss him more than words can express, we take comfort in knowing that his love, his faith, and his legacy will continue to live on in each of us. He is deeply loved and will be forever remembered by his children, grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife Mary Linda, children Jed Thomas and wife Corinne, Amy Fogth and husband Richard, Andrew Thomas and wife Sarah, and Jacob Thomas and wife Noel, as well as 16 grandchildren and10 great-grandchildren.
