Jon L Vaughn, born on August 17, 1962, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 62. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, whose warmth and humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy Vaughn, of the home; sons, Jonel Cheyenne Vaughn and Cecia of Stilwell, OK, Jaron Trent Vaughn and Makayla of Locust Grove, OK, Jason Paul Kirk and Sabra of Westville, OK, and Micah Granville Kirk; and daughter Amber Rae Kirk. He also leaves behind a legacy of laughter and joy through his grandchildren: Kase, Rylee, Preslee, Jaxon, Oak, Carter, Lexon, Knoxtyn, and Laileigh. He is also survived by his sister, Merle Downing, and her husband Otis of Locust Grove, OK, niece, Ema Parker and husband Blake, also of Locust Grove, great niece, Morgan Parker, and great nephew, Chett Parker.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Elsie Pearl Vaughn, as well as a host of aunts and uncles.
Known for his engaging spirit and his ability to make others laugh, Jon took great pride in watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, always cheering them on. He was an avid OU and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His love for cars and fascination with shows like Street Outlaws reflected his love for classic cars. Jon had a unique passion for gathering all kinds of things to collect and he possessed an unparalleled sense of humor that brought laughter to many conversations. His ability to quote various sitcoms and movies became a delightful hallmark of his personality.
Funeral services for Jon will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Locust Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Parker and Rob Bagby officiating. Burial will follow at the McClain Cemetery in Locust Grove, with Daunnie "Chooch" Cooper, John Starling, Kawliga Colvin, Richard Berry, Otis Downing, and Blake Parker serving as casket bearers. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2024, in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor. Honorary casket bearers include Kevin Vaughn, Ace Bluebird, Kase Ingram, Jason Kirk, Micah Kirk, Carter Vaughn, Knoxtyn Vaughn, Jaxon Fourkiller, Lexon Vaughn, Chett Parker, and Oak Kirk. Rylee "Rooster" Kirk, Preslee Hammer, Laileigh Vaughn, Amber Kirk, Ema Parker, and Morgan Parker will serve as flower girls.
