Graveside services with U.S. Navy Military honors will be held at 3:00pm Monday, July 21, 2025 in the Wright family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Mr. Powhatan Carter will officiate.
Jon Donal Wright, 79 passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025 in Fort Sumner. Jon was born September 15, 1945 in Marianna, Florida. He attended school in Fort Sumner.
Jon served in the U.S. Navy from 1975 until his retirement February 28, 1995. His 20 years of service included 7 years of Sea Service including time spent on the USS Nitro. His decorations and citations included the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Medal, South West Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Battle "E" Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and Rifle Marksman.
Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Byron O'Lester and Audrey Louise (Barnhart) Wright.
Survivors include one daughter Moneek Alvarado and her husband Mauro F. of Clovis, one granddaughter Roxanne Rene Alvarado of Clovis and his longtime companion Kathy Mickle of Fort Sumner.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico. (575) 355-2311.
