Mr. Jonah “Dale” Marsh, age 78 of Lowgap, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Marsh was born on May 17, 1947, in Surry County to the late Wayne Franklin and Betty Jo Southern Marsh. Jonah graduated from North Surry High School in 1966. Following graduation, he served in the North Carolina National Guard and worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company until his retirement. He was an avid beekeeper and farmer known to many in the Lowgap Community. He was of the Baptist Faith and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to many who will be deeply missed. Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Carolyn Elizabeth Smithers Marsh of the home; sons and daughters-in-law Billy and Amber Marsh of Hays, NC, Mike and Heather Marsh of Mount Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and David Wills of Lowgap, stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Russell and Angela Edwards of Woodlawn, VA; grandchildren, Kenneth Wills, Trevor Marsh, Taylor Marsh, Kacey Wills, Cloe Marsh, Kennedy Marsh; a sister and brother-in-law, Lynn Marsh and Eric Godfrey of Mount Airy; two nieces, and a special pet “Sneaky”. Mr. Marsh was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Woodland, VA with Pastor Billy Marsh officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery . Mr. Marsh’s body will lie-in-state on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 8:00 AM until 12:00PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shiloh Cemetery, c/o Carolyn Brooks, 1790 Airport Road, Hillsville, Virginia 24343. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
