Jonas Troyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Jonas Levi Troyer passed away at his residence in Peru on Thursday, January 29, due to natural causes. Born on September 30, 1986, at Dukes Hospital in Peru, he was the son of Brian L. Troyer and the late Valerie K. Troyer. He is survived by his sister, Rachel C. Troyer, of Carmel, Indiana, and his father who resides in Peru. Jonas was affiliated with McGrawsville Community Church. Jonas graduated from Maconaquah High School in 2005, earning distinction as one of the top 5% in his class. During his school years, he played football for four years and participated on the wrestling team for three years, achieving a senior record of 33 wins and 3 losses. Notably, one defeat was against an individual who subsequently secured the state title, and another occurred at the Fort Wayne regional competition. Additionally, Jonas contributed as a freshman member of the Maconaquah Choral group "The Counter Points." He was also actively involved with the McGrawsville Community Church youth group throughout high school, taking part in a mission trip to Puerto Rico and attending various retreats. While engaged in the youth group, Jonas accepted Christ and was baptized at Jenkins Pond during one of the church's annual outdoor Celebration Sundays. For his senior project, Jonas volunteered at the Kokomo Rescue Mission, documenting his experience through photography in an exhibit. As a youth, Jonas completed ten years as a 4-H member, working on electricity projects, exhibiting lambs one year, and presenting swine projects for eight years. After high school, Jonas attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he joined the Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity and played football for four years. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering. During college, Jonas began experiencing significant mental health challenges that impacted much of his adult life. In addition, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in his late twenties, which introduced further health complexities. His courageous efforts to manage both conditions required most of his attention and affected certain opportunities. In adulthood, Jonas developed an interest in woodworking, crafting flower boxes, wood storage racks, and birdhouses. He cultivated sweet corn over several years and assisted with maintenance at the family farmstead. Together with his father, Jonas spent eight months renovating his home on 12th Street in Peru. He enjoyed tending to flowers and houseplants, expressing a particular fondness for sunflowers, which held special significance in relation to his mother. Jonas cared deeply for animals and was a devoted cat owner for the past seventeen years. Memorial services will take place at McGrawsville Community Church on Saturday, February 7. Visitation is scheduled from 12:00 noon until 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at Kokomo Zion Cemetery immediately afterward. Memorial contributions to the McGrawsville Community Church can be made at the Memorial Service or through Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.

Please accept our condolences on the loss of your beloved son. Jonas was my neighbor. He was always friendly and never missed saying hello. I´d see him on his porch almost every day. I´ll miss his daily greetings.
