Jonathan Heilbrunn

Jonathan Heilbrunn, 83 of Matawan, New Jersey passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
Born Thursday, May 16, 1940 in Livingston, New Jersey, Jonathan was the beloved son of the late Sylvan and Aida Heilbrunn.
Jonathan was raised in Maplewood, NJ, and attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and Commerce where he received his Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1962. With a continuing thirst for knowledge, he attended Rutgers University School of Law where he received his Bachelor of Law Degree in 1965 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1968. Jonathan was admitted to the Bar in New York and New Jersey and to practice before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 1966. Thereafter, he was admitted to practice law in Maine.
During this time Jonathan relocated to Old Bridge. Professionally, Jonathan served a Judicial Clerkship to the Assignment Judge of the County of Middlesex from 1965 through 1966. Soon after, he spent one year serving as a legal assistant to the then Prosecutor of the County of Middlesex before opening his own firm, in Old Bridge, where he concentrated in the areas of land use and zoning, commercial and residential real estate, construction, and development.
During these years, Jonathan started a family and raised his children in the town of Old Bridge. Not just active in his family life, Jonathan was also an active member of his community. He served in the local Rotary Club and was a member of the Board of Directors of Amboy Bank.
Jonathan would say he was an Old Maine Fishing Guide dressed as an attorney, because of his love of fly fishing. He took this with him to the Adirondacks and Florida, truly anywhere he could cast his line. He had an insatiable appetite for knowledge and was an avid reader. He kept the Bible for Dummies next to his bedside, and also read about Hinduism, Buddhism, and the Koran. He learned about design and put that knowledge to use designing and building his own home. Jonathan was an avid runner, claiming to come in first place for 50 year old lawyers from Old Bridge in the Atlantic City Marathon.
Jonathan will be missed by all those that he loved and who loved him deeply. He was predeceased by his parents, Sylvan and Aida, by his sister Susan Simon, and by his beloved step son Sean Tucker.
Jonathan is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Janice and by his loving children, Rebecca Vlam and her husband Stephen, Jennifer Byiers and her husband Chris, Christopher Tucker and his wife Lisa, daughter in law Kim Tucker, and by his cherished grandchildren, Ben, Maxwell, Charlie, Hunter, and Jamie.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.
A Memorial service will be at 12:15 PM on Thursday at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals and Cremation Service located at 3377 US Highway 9 Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857.
Reception following the service until 4:30 pm will be at the Buttonwood Manor, 845 State Highway 34, Matawan, NJ 07747. All are welcome.
